The measurement
A hard tech company at inception is mostly probability. But the physics underneath it is already either true or false — it just hasn't been measured yet. We named the firm for that idea. Our job is to measure the technical truth before the market resolves it, and to own a meaningful position when it does.
The mismatch
For two decades, the overwhelming majority of venture capital chased software while the most enduring companies in the world were built on hardware. That mismatch is correcting. The next two decades belong to the physical economy — and to the investors fluent enough to underwrite it.
What we back
We invest in the foundational layer of American industrial capacity: the materials, components, and physics-based platforms that defense, energy, and manufacturing are built on. We invest at inception — the moment technical fluency is the only edge that matters, and the moment generalist capital can't yet price the risk.

The edge is the engineer
Eigenstate is led by an engineer, not a financier — a hardware and optics background, and a partner who still builds. Deals are sourced directly through technical communities rather than syndicates, and underwritten on the engineering itself. For a technical founder, that's an investor who can evaluate the work, not just the story. Technical diligence runs from reactor physics to semiconductor architectures.
How we decide
Technical-first diligence, every time. The non-negotiables: founders who've done hard things, a defensible technical edge, real customer signal, a realistic capital plan, a clean cap table, and clear thinking on ITAR/EAR and NDAA exposure. Two questions settle it — would we be embarrassed if this failed, not because failure is bad but because we didn't do the work? And is this a founder we'd want to work with for the next seven to ten years?
The industrial renaissance is already happening. The enabling layer is where the asymmetry lives.
